Philosopher Seeds' Gelonade Description

Gelonade derives from powerhouse USA parent strains and possesses huge levels of THC and invigorating citrus flavors. Get to know this variety below to decide if she deserves a place in your grow room or garden.

Strain History of Gelonade

Gelonade originates from a breeding project carried out in California. Her breeders wanted to create something productive, sweet, cerebral, and energizing. Soon after achieving their goal, Gelonade went on to become an extremely popular cultivar across the West Coast and beyond.

To begin with, Gelonade spread chiefly through word of mouth. However, this all changed when the strain started to win prestigious awards, such as the Sativa Flower Cup in 2018 and Best Indoor Flower at The Emerald Cup in 2021. Since these wins, Gelonade continues to show up in more grow rooms, gardens, and dispensaries than ever before. Many seed banks now stock these genetics, including the Spanish outlet Philosopher Seeds.

Genetic Lineage of Gelonade

Gelonade inherited her core traits from two terpene-packed parent varieties. Dive deeper into this pair below to get a better understanding of the building blocks of Gelonade:

• Lemon Tree: Also known as Lemon Tree Kush, this strain is often referred to as the United States version of Amnesia. As the progeny of Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel, this energizing cultivar offers refreshing notes of citrus and a physically soothing effect.

• Gelato #41: Born out of a cross between Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Cookies, Gelato #41 packs an enormous THC content of 23%. Her purple-green buds, euphoric high, and stress-busting effects make her a firm favorite among many smokers and cultivators.

Physical Characteristics of Gelonade

As a descendant of both sativa and indica ancestors, Gelonade showcases a mixed morphology. This cultivar features the lanky proportions and narrow leaflets of a pure sativa strain but maintains the medium height of indica varieties. On top of this, she produces dense and compact colas that more closely resemble those produced by the indica members of her family tree. Morphology aside, Gelonade boasts a high trichome density, and her flowers develop a thick coating of sticky resin during the tail-end of the flowering phase.

Properties and Effects of Gelonade

Gelonade produces a primarily energizing and cerebral effect. Her high sets in hard and fast, eventually tapering off into a soft and slightly stoning afterglow. Gelonade’s THC content of 24% places her toward the potent end of the effects spectrum. Beginners are advised to take this strain one toke at a time. More experienced users often use this strain to make extra-strong edibles and extracts.

While THC forms the core of the high, it synergizes with many different compounds within the buds to produce its multi-faceted effects, including the cannabinoid CBG and terpenes such as terpinolene, caryophyllene, and myrcene.

As well as its effects, the above terpenes also work to create Gelonade's sweet and citrusy flavor. Notes of bright and zingy lemon mingle with floral flavors and grounding hints of earth. Each hit tastes refreshing and complex, making the strain very craveable.

Uses of Gelonade

Cannabis lovers reach for Gelonade buds for a variety of reasons. From a purely recreational perspective, this strain comes in handy when looking for a cognitive high that’ll boost motivation and creativity. Many users enjoy these buds in the morning and throughout the working day (in moderation) to stay on their toes and maintain focus. Others choose to use Gelonade in slightly higher doses, activating its more stoning, narcotic effects that are well-suited to evening use.

Many medical cannabis users also elect to use Gelonade for an array of purposes, ranging from anxiety and stress to pain and other physical symptoms. That said, these uses are purely anecdotal, as Gelonade has not been studied specifically for its medicinal potential. However, that's not to discredit its potential either.

While Gelonade isn’t known for producing notable side effects, like many high-THC strains it is capable of inducing dry mouth and eyes, as well as paranoia and anxiety in higher doses.

Cultivation and Production of Gelonade

Gelonade boasts hardy genetics that helps the strain to thrive in all sorts of different environments. Indoors, Gelonade reaches a medium height of around 150cm, making her ideal for most growing spaces. If you’re particularly pressed for space, consider topping this strain early in the vegetative phase and applying LST to keep her much closer to the ground. Illuminate her with powerful lights, and feed her well, and you’ll reap up to 600g in a growing space of 120cm × 120cm. As the icing on top, her flowering period is a pleasingly brief 8–9 weeks.

Outdoors, Gelonade thrives in warmer weather. Position plants in the sunniest spot in your garden while making sure they have ample protection from strong winds and flooding. If you live particularly far north or south, you’ll have more success extending the growing season using a greenhouse or polytunnel. Prepare to start harvesting and drying plants in October.

Whether you choose to grow indoors or out, Gelonade responds particularly well to biological inputs. Consider using amendments such as rhizobacteria, Trichoderma, and mycorrhizal fungi.

Gelonade: Refreshing and Euphoric

Overall, Gelonade serves up a refreshing and euphoric experience. High levels of THC and fruity terpenes join forces to deliver an electrifying and cognitive experience. With an impressive genetic lineage and an easygoing cultivation cycle, this strain will likely maintain its popularity for years to come.
