ZaZa is a term often used to generally refer to exotic cannabis. However, there is also a strain called ZaZa, known for its hard-hitting relaxing stone and unique earthy aroma. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about the ZaZa strain, its effects, origins, and more.

History of ZaZa

ZaZa is a hybrid strain bred by South Bay Genetics. South Bay is based in Southern California in the Greater Los Angeles region and led by a breeder more popularly known as Flora Nugs. The brand distinguishes itself by working solely with top-shelf West Coast cultivars and a few collaborations with fellow Cali genetics brand Seven Leaf Genetics.

South Bay's founder, Flora Nugs, is originally from Seattle and had an early introduction to cannabis thanks to both his parents growing their own weed at home. In fact, his mom even gifted him his first cannabis grow book. However, even though he tried his hand at growing in the 1990s, he always ended up killing off his plants due to fear of prosecution. It wasn't until 2009 that Flora Nugs really took cannabis cultivation more seriously.

Now well-settled in LA, Flora Nugs has created a long list of unique strains, including:

Genetic Lineage of ZaZa

ZaZa is rumored to be a 70% indica-dominant strain bred from a cross of Scott's OG and Gas Station Bob. Below, we'll shine a light on both of these strains.

Scott's OG is a hybrid strain bred by Rare Dankness from Triangle Kush and Rare Dankness #1. The result is an indica-dominant strain with a unique aroma that's citric, sweet, and spicy all at once. Boasting around 26% THC, Scott's OG is also known to have intensely euphoric effects that both recreational and medical users recommend, especially for daytime use. It produces dense, super frosty nuggets with beautiful shades of forest green and extremely tight packs of calyxes.

Zaza's second parent is Gas Station Bob, a strain attributed to South Bay Genetics, Gastown Genetics, and Dying Breed Seeds. Unfortunately, it isn't clear who bred the original Gas Station Bob nor which variety South Bay used to create ZaZa. In general, Gas Station Bob is an indica-dominant strain with a dense bud structure, very high resin production, and a very gassy aromatic profile. It usually produces a relaxing stone that soothes the mind while also calming the body.

Like its parents, ZaZa tends to produce dense, green flowers with a thick coating of resin and tightly stacked swollen calyxes. Its effects are said to be extra strong, producing a sleepy, sedative stone that can send even experienced smokers into a hypnotic daze for hours.

Physical Characteristics of ZaZa

ZaZa typically produces elongated and dense flowers with a chunky, pine-tree structure. These buds can be rock hard and difficult to break apart by hand due to their dense structure and super sticky resin. Depending on the batch, ZaZa flowers are typically dark green or purple, contrasted by long, fiery red pistils. Unfortunately, ZaZa is a rare variety not commonly cultivated by home growers, and there's differing information about the overall size of ZaZa plants.

ZaZa is rumored to be a potent strain that can produce up to 30% THC as well as a rich mix of terpenes, including linalool, caryophyllene, and myrcene. Together, these compounds combine to give the strain its very unique and dank aroma that combines the earthiness of loose-leaf tea with subtle floral undertones and some light nuttiness. Its flavor is similarly earthy and floral, with a very subtle sweetness that shines through on the exhale. Many users describe ZaZa's flavor as exotic, but its pungent, earthy overtones might not appeal to everyone.
