Clone Only Strains Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush is a legendary indica-dominant hybrid strain with, until recently, unknown origins. However, rumor has it that Triangle Kush was accidentally bred in Florida and shares very close ties to another classic hybrid—OG Kush. Though she was born close to thirty years ago, Triangle Kush is still beloved by recreational and medical smokers for her heavy-handed stone. Keep reading to learn more about this fascinating strain, including its origins, effects, growth traits, and more.

History of Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush (also known as Triangle OG or OG Triangle) is a rare indica-dominant hybrid accidentally created in the 1990s by Marty TK Calabrese, currently the founder of the TK Origins cannabis brand. After getting introduced to weed through his surfer friends as a teenager, Marty started dealing and eventually growing his own plants at a very young age. In 1989, Marty traveled to Amsterdam with his fellow growers to source seeds for their operation. Among the strains they brought back with them was Hindu Kush.

One day in the grow room, Marty realized that one of his Hindu Kush plants had produced pollen. Despite removing the plant, at harvest time, Marty and his partner realized that the pollen had spread to all the plants in the room, including some Emerald Triangle females that were growing in the same space. To cut their losses, Marty and his partner sold as much of the seeded weed as they could. Little did he know that one of the bags he sold to a friend would, years later, give rise to Triangle Kush and OG Kush.

Genetic Lineage of Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush is said to be indica-dominant and combines genetics from Hindu Kush and Emerald Triangle. Below, we'll explore these strains in more detail.

Hindu Kush is really an umbrella term for landrace plants from the mountainous regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. True indicas, these plants are known for their stocky, bushy structure, dark green foliage, and excellent resin production. They also flower notably faster than landrace sativa strains and boast great resilience to cool temperatures. Hindu Kush varieties also have a very unique aroma that combines notes of incense, earth, and sandalwood, as well as hints of spice. During the 1970s, many travelers brought Hindu Kush seeds back to The US and Europe. The Hindu Kush plant that gave rise to Triangle Kush was sourced from The Netherlands.

Emerald Triangle, on the other hand, is a scarce cannabis variety with unknown origins. According to cannabis folklore, Emerald Triangle was created in Florida and is named after the three cities that make up the state's biggest cannabis producing region; Jacksonville, Miami, and Tampa (which together form a triangle on the map). Unfortunately, little is known about the effects, aromas, and flavors of this old-school strain.

Physical Characteristics of Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush's indica-dominance definitely shines through in the grow room. These plants are typically stocky, producing sturdy stems, broad, dark green leaves, and tightly spaced internodes. Once flipped to bloom, Triangle Kush exhibits minimal stretching and starts developing tight flower clusters along its branches and central stem. Come harvest time, Triangle Kush plants are typically loaded with chunky, bright green flowers boasting swollen calyxes, rust-coloured pistils, and a thick coat of sticky, aromatic trichomes.

Properties/Effects of Triangle Kush

Capable of producing 23-30% THC, Triangle Kush is incredibly potent. Besides its rich concentration of cannabinoids, Triangle Kush also packs a diverse mix of terpenes. Some of the most dominant terpenes in this strain are myrcene, limonene, and caryophyllene, though it may also contain hints of humulene, linalool, and pinene. Together, these compounds produce a complex and intense aroma that combines notes of skunk, earth, toasted cinnamon, hops, and citrus. Upon smelling the strain for the first time, you'll be greeted by an earthy diesel punch.

Take a second whiff, however, and you'll notice some sweetness (almost reminiscent of bubblegum) and a spicy, dirty hash finish. Light her up, and Triangle Kush will delight your palate with a surprising note of sour diesel, followed by earthy hash flavors that make themselves known on the exhale and stick around long after you've finished smoking.

Given its high concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes, Triangle Kush produces strong effects that are ideal for experienced, high-tolerance smokers. As you might expect from her genetic lineage, Triangle Kush delivers some heavy-handed indica effects that can send even the most experienced smoker into a deep, couch-locked trance. After your initial toke, you'll likely feel a strong hit right between the eyes that sends your mind into overdrive for a minute or two. Then, however, it's bye-bye productivity and focus, and instead, it is time to embrace Triangle Kush's deeply relaxing stone. Ideally, you'll want to settle into a comfortable space with your favorite snacks before lighting up this heavy hitter.

Uses of Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush's knockout stone might not be for everyone. Still, recreational smokers with a tolerance and a love for heavy indicas will definitely enjoy this potent strain. Most people recommend using this strain after work, on weekends, or during staycations—basically, anytime you want to light up, lay down, and drift away without worrying about staying productive or focused.

Of course, with such deeply relaxing effects, Triangle Kush also attracts medical cannabis patients. According to patient reviews, this strain's heavy stone may help provide long-lasting relief from a variety of conditions, including:

• Sleep disorders

• Appetite

• Physical discomfort

• Feelings of stress

• Muscle soreness

• Mood-related disorders

Of course, given its potency and strong physical stone, Triangle Kush can also cause unwanted side effects, especially in people with a low tolerance or those unfamiliar with the soothing properties of strong indicas. In general, the side effects reported by users of this strain include:

• Anxiety

• Paranoia

• Headaches

• Dissociation

• Cottonmouth and dry eyes

Cultivation/Production of Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush seeds can be purchased from a variety of seedbanks and retailers. These plants are generally stocky and bushy, reaching moderate heights indoors (especially if appropriately trained). Outdoors, however, Triangle Kush plants might grow much larger, reaching heights of up to 200cm. Known to veg vigorously and produce a lot of foliage, Triangle Kush usually responds well to trimming, defoliation, and even lollipopping.

Thanks to her landrace heritage, Triangle Kush is known to be resilient to pests and pathogens, as well as cooler temperatures (which actually help intensify her aroma). Once in bloom, Triangle Kush plants start to produce dense, bright green flowers that, come harvest time, are covered in resin and boast excellent structure. On average, Triangle Kush strains take about 8–9 weeks to finish flowering and produce yields of up to 400g/m² indoors and up to 400g/plant outside.

Triangle Kush: An Old-School Florida-born Indica

Triangle Kush is a classic hybrid strain bred by Marty TK Calabrese in Florida. A cross of Hindu Kush and Emerald Triangle, Triangle Kush boasts strong indica genetics, excellent aromas, and a heavy physical stone that'll put veteran smokers to sleep. If you like old-school indica aromas, flavors, and effects, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for Triangle Kush.

I question that this strain actually originated in florida, and the explanation for why seems a little odd.. who names bud after any location letalone a combination of 3 and who calls 3 locations a "triangle". I actually don't believe any genetics originated in florida and I think they are wrongfully claiming anything that's good and made it down there, just because it was hoarded or grown heavily.

I've heard that "the white" is a pheno of triangle kush, but I'd also heard that it's a pheno of an unrelated triangle. I'd really like to know before that information get muddled.
