Red Pop is a hybrid cannabis strain developed in Washington state from US and Dutch genetics. In fact, it's a direct descendant of the famous Cookies & Cream. Keep reading to learn more about this strain, its origins, effects, lineage, and then some.

Strain History of Red Pop

Red Pop is a hybrid strain created by Exotic Genetix—a now-renowned cannabis genetics company from Tacoma, Washington. Exotic Genetix's founder, Exotic Mike, is a highly regarded name in the cannabis genetics business. His career, however, started humbly—namely at his local hydroponic store, where Mike would put in hours in exchange for gardening equipment.

Seeing local medical patients running into problems with bugs and pathogens (which landed in their gardens/grow rooms on the very same clones they bought), Mike got the idea to start his own seed project and give those growers a clean, pest-free start. Every time a customer would walk into the hydro store where Mike worked asking for advice on pest control, he would hand them a free pack of seeds and tell them to go clean their tent/room.

After years of handing out free seeds, Mike entered a High Times Cannabis Cup in Seattle and took 2nd place. From there, the rest is history. Today, Exotic Genetix holds multiple cannabis cups, awards, and trophies for strains like Tina, Cookies & Cream, Kimbo Kush, Trap Star, Lemon Meringue, and many more.

While it's not clear when Exotic Genetix dropped Red Pop, the strain descends from the bank's renowned Cookies & Cream line. According to Exotic Mike himself: “Not only does this Red Pop S1 smell amazing, but the infusion of big terps and big yield on everything touched by her is the real magic. Each and everyone is special in their own way, no doubt. If there’s one limited drop to not miss out on all year, this would be the one”.

Genetic Lineage of Red Pop

Red Pop by Exotic Genetix is roughly 60% indica dominant. The strain combines genetics from Strawberry and Cookies & Cream, and was crossed with itself (inbred) to produce an S1 seed line. Below we'll take a look at both Strawberry and Cookies & Cream to explore their traits and how they may have impacted those of Red Pop.

Strawberry, Red Pop's first parent, allegedly has Dutch origins. Unfortunately, as is the case with a lot of old-school strains, the history of Strawberry is shrouded in mystery. We don't know who bred this strain nor what other strains it stems from. However, users who have had the chance to smoke Strawberry love the strain's fruity, fresh berry aroma and balanced effects—which have also been retained in its Red Pop progeny.

Red Pop's second parent, Cookies & Cream, on the other hand, is a well-known strain developed by Mike at Exotic Genetix. Derived from a mysterious Cookies cut and Starfighter F2, Cookies & Cream won the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup, and has since become beloved by any smoker or grower graced by her presence. Cookies & Cream is known for producing dense, bulky flowers with sweet vanilla aromas and nutty overtones, as well as strong effects that are relaxing in small doses and sedating in higher doses. Cookies & Cream's great bud structure and intense resin production are very present in Exotic Genetix’s Red Pop.

Physical Characteristics of Red Pop

Red Pop was available for a limited time as an S1 seed from the Exotic Genetix online seed store. While the strain is no longer listed on Exotic's website, it continues to be grown by a variety of cultivators who still have access to seeds or clones of the strain. Below we've compiled information regarding the strain's physical traits from different grow reports and sources.

Red Pop plants grow vigorously and reach moderate heights indoors. Apart from a strong central stem, plants also produce solid side branches with moderately spaced nodes and broad, dark green leaves. Once in bloom, Red Pop doesn't seem to stretch too much, though its canopy gets notably more luscious and full. As they flower, Red Pop plants develop thick buds that can take on beautiful dark hues. As they creep ever closer to harvest, Red Pop flowers become covered in a thick, frosty layer of trichomes and can even develop some light purple outlines. Topped with flaring orange pistils, Red Pop buds boast a lot of bag appeal and the thick, sturdy structure of their Cookies & Cream parent.

Properties and Effects of Red Pop

Little information is available about the exact chemical profile of Red Pop. Some sources suggest that the strain contains around 20% THC, though some batches may test higher. It also contains a rich mix of exotic terpenes that combine to produce a sugary sweet aroma with hints of berries, fruit, and creamy vanilla—oddly reminiscent of flavored cola or other similar sparkling soft drinks (aka soda pops).

Given its THC and terpene levels, Red Pop produces potent effects that settle in almost immediately after smoking or vaping her flowers. Her high simultaneously targets both the mind and body, relaxing muscular tension while sending the mind into a creative, happy, and social daze.
