Basic Strain Info

Snowman is a mostly sativa variety from unknown origin and can be cultivated indoors and outdoors. .

What do we know about the unknown/legendary Snowman?

Snowman produces exceedingly high levels of THC and plenty of earthy and savory terpenes. Her deep purple shades and dense coating of trichomes also make her an attractive option for keen cultivars. Find out everything you need to know about this phenotype of Girl Scout Cookies, including a closer look at her genetic lineage, physical characteristics and potential uses.

History of Snowman

Snowman, otherwise known as Snowman OG, possesses an impressive family tree and vast quantities of THC. This sativa-dominant hybrid was developed by Premium Cultivars, an American seedbank that boasts an extensive catalog of unique genetics. Working closely with various breeders, the company has several sets of cultivars, including those belonging to their "exotic" category.

With plenty of THC, eye-catching colors, and a myriad of terpenes, Snowman belongs to this sought-after exotic group. While the strain has yet to gain widespread recognition through competition wins, it continues to steadily rise in popularity thanks to word of mouth and online grow reports.

Genetic Lineage of Snowman

Interestingly, Snowman didn't emerge as an entirely new and unique cultivar. Instead, the variety is a specific phenotype of the world-famous Girl Scout Cookies (GSC). After discovering a particularly frosty and purple pheno, breeders took the necessary measures to stabilize it into a consistent variety that could grow from seed. GSC itself stems from a cross between parent strains OG Kush and Durban Poison.

Naturally, Snowman inherited some of the best traits of these two titans, including superb potency and euphoric effects. GSC herself has gained widespread recognition from growers worldwide, partly due to her Cannabis Cup wins, but largely due to her unmatched phytochemical profile. While, Snowman hasn't quite captured the limelight as quickly, she still produces massive levels of THC, strong flavors, and colorful colas, so the odds are certainly in her favour.

Physical Characteristics of Snowman

Unlike the original GSC, Snowman possesses more of a sativa morphology. Because of this, she grows taller and features a different shape and structure. She has longer internodes, leaves with thinner leaflets, and more of an open and spacious canopy. Her size ultimately depends on the available space and the grower's training techniques. Considering these factors, she can reach anywhere from 80–200cm.

Snowman produces relatively small and dense colas. Tapered in shape, they possess an abundance of trichomes and tightly packed sugar leaves. This strain starts out dark green during the early stages of the growing cycle. However, towards the middle of flowering, her colas and leaves undergo a drastic change in appearance. As her anthocyanin levels ramp up, these components exhibit shades of deep purple that sometimes appear almost black.

Properties/Effects of Snowman

Snowman lands a fast-acting and hard-hitting psychoactive effect. Much like GSC, this variety features enough THC to rank as one of the most potent strains available. Concentrations range from 23–27%, meaning those plants on the weaker end of the spectrum still exert a high more powerful than most modern hybrids.

Still, the effects of Snowman aren't purely the result of THC. Her deep purple colas contain a complex array of phytochemicals, including many types of terpenes. The most abundant among this aromatic class of chemicals include caryophyllene, myrcene, and humulene. Caryophyllene adds a physically soothing effect alongside hints of pepper and cloves; myrcene adds a stoning element to the experience while providing tastes of fruit, and humulene adds flavors of hops while helping to soothe muscles.

Uses of Snowman

Snowman has gained popularity among many recreational users for her intense effects. As the polar opposite of a wake-and-bake strain, this variety goes down much better during quiet evenings at home. Her cognitive effects help users get into the zone when it comes to reading books or getting creative, while her relaxing physical effect encourages smokers to nestle into the couch and get some restorative downtime.

Recreational effects aside, Snowman also has some purported therapeutic value. Medical marijuana users have found that the high levels of THC found in these buds, alongside her primary terpenes, may help to quell certain symptoms. However, despite the promise of anecdotal claims, it's important to recognize that no empirical studies have assessed the efficacy of this cultivar in managing health-related symptoms. Overall, medical marijuana users report that Snowman might help with the following:

• Appetite: Every cannabis user has experienced the munchies at some point. THC within cannabis flowers interacts with the endocannabinoid system in the human body, which holds sway over appetite. Certain health conditions can cause appetite to plummet, which can cause unintended weight loss. Some users find that, because of the vast quantities of THC found in Snowman, this strain can bolster the desire to eat—a lot.

• Pain: Clinical trials regarding THC and pain remain inconclusive. With that said, countless anecdotal accounts testify to the compound's usefulness in combating chronic pain. Additionally, early research continues to explore the role of humulene—one of the primary terpenes found in Snowman—in treating physical discomfort.

• Anxiety: Some users also find that hitting a bowl or joint filled with Snowman helps to curb feelings of nervousness and agitation. However, such high levels of THC could certainly produce the opposite effect, so a balanced approach is crucial.

Cultivation/Production of Snowman

Snowman performs well in both indoor and outdoor environments. As a hungry sativa-dominant cultivar, she benefits from a rich growing medium packed with organic matter such as worm castings and aged compost. Decide how big you want your plants to get and then choose your strategy accordingly; opt for a small pot and train plants early to keep them around 80cm, or grow them directly in the ground outdoors or in a greenhouse and leave them untrained to peak at 200cm.

Keep your plants well-fed and make sure outdoor specimens are positioned in full sun, and you're guaranteed to pull in a bountiful harvest. As for flowering times, expect indoor plants to take 8–10 weeks, while outdoors, buds should be ready to harvest in late October.

Snowman: A GSC Phenotype Carving Out Its Own Path

As the lesser-known phenotype of GSC, Snowman ranks almost as highly as this legendary strain regarding potency, flavor, and yield. You can essentially view her as GSC's slightly less potent and more savory cousin. If you enjoy a mix of euphoric and stoning effects, as well as earthy and peppery notes, then you should definitely give this strain a whirl.
