History of SleeStack

SleeStack first emerged in breeding facilities run by DNA Genetics, a cannabis seed company founded by Don Morris and Aaron Yarkoni. Established over thirteen years ago in Amsterdam, the company initially started breeding on a small scale, producing high-quality strains for both recreational and medical users.

Both breeders have had a knack for growing weed since early on in their youth, developing their green fingers some twenty years prior to starting the company. In an interview published on DNA Genetics’ blog, Yarkoni recalls throwing seeds out of his window in California, resulting in his first plants. It didn’t take long for him to start experimenting with breeding and toying around crossing strains such as Skunk, Northern Lights, White Widow, and Jack Herer.

Although natives to the West Coast of the US, the pair saw a big opportunity when visiting Amsterdam after becoming shocked at the lack of American genetics available to the hordes of tourists that frequent the city. After weighing up the possibility of opening up a dispensary in Los Angeles or migrating to Amsterdam, the pair chose the latter.

Since then, DNA Genetics has created countless cultivars enjoyed by growers worldwide. SleeStack quickly gained traction in Europe and now boasts a dedicated growership. Her impressive stash of awards, including 3rd place at the 2009 Outdoor Highlife Cup, 3rd place at the 2009 Spannabis Champions Cup in the Outdoor category, and 1st place at the 2010 and 2011 Legends of Hash Dinner events, fuelled her rise to stardom.

Genetic Lineage of SleeStack

SleeStack owes much of its successful run to its predecessors. Both of its parent strains passed down key traits that, when merged in the progeny, made SleeStack attractive to growers and smokers alike. Get to know the cultivar's parent strains below:

A debate exists about the exact ancestry of Schrom. However, it's generally believed that the strain descends from Romulan and either Silver Haze or Santa Marta Colombian Gold. This sativa-dominant hybrid possesses a moderate THC content of around 17%. Alongside high levels of the terpenes terpinolene, caryophyllene, and pinene, this level of THC drives an energizing and cerebral high ideal for daytime use.

These effects uplift the mood and help users become more talkative, making Schrom a good choice during parties and social gatherings. However, some users find that the stimulating high can make them anxious, especially when consumed in excess. When inhaled through a vaporizer, notes of sage and lime burst to the fore.

Martian Mean Green is another creation from DNA Genetics that was used to enhance THC levels. As the sativa-dominant progeny of G13 Haze and Sharksbreath, this strain boasts a high THC content of 24%, alongside trace levels of CBG. High concentrations of terpinolene, pinene, and myrcene also contribute to her diverse phytochemical profile. Physical Characteristics of SleeStack

Despite her vastly sativa-dominant genetic profile, SleeStack grows much smaller than other plants with similar genetic profiles. Her medium size makes her suitable for small gardens, and with some training, she will also prove to be easy to manage indoors.

Plants possess sturdy main stems, relatively small fan leaves with thin leaflets, and an open canopy with naturally good aeration and adequate light penetration. Her flowers are dense and feature a green canvas decorated with enough trichomes to give the illusion of a light frost.

Properties/Effects of SleeStack

The THC levels within SleeStack's flowers vary drastically depending on phenotypic expression and growing conditions. Weaker specimens weigh in with a THC content of 17%, although plants can produce up to 23% when managed correctly. Those on the weaker end of the spectrum create a more subtle, clear-headed high that elevates the mood and helps to maintain focus when working on small creative tasks. Plants higher in THC are more energizing and stimulating, but hit much harder, making it more difficult to maintain focus.

SleeStack's terpene profile also plays a vital role in her subjective effects. Terpinolene exerts a relaxing effect while contributing flavors of herbs and apples; caryophyllene adds a spicy edge and relaxes the body; pinene contributes a refreshing taste and helps to keep the mind sharp and lucid.

Raised in small containers and topped early, she'll peak at around 120cm. Let her loose outdoors, where she can take on her natural morphology, and she'll reach a height of around 150cm.

Defoliate SleeStack before flowering to divert energy to her developing colas, and apply frequent amounts of homemade compost tea to keep her microbiome healthy and able to repel disease. Plants also benefit from bioinoculants during sowing and transplanting to assist root development and nutrient acquisition. Effective options include mycorrhizal fungi, rhizobacteria, and trichoderma.

SleeStack completes the flowering stage in around nine weeks, making her a quick producer for a sativa-dominant strain. Indoor growers should prepare to harvest, trim, and dry up to 500g/m².
