Additional Information
ProfessorLH says
A friend received a cutting of PitBull back in 2003 at the THC Foundation in Portland, OR and gifted us a cut shortly thereafter. It was said to have come from an "old hippy on the coast" not far from where we live. After some lengthy investigation and guesswork (and mostly a stroke of bizarre luck) we tracked down the individual who is an author and plant breeder himself. He confirmed the strain as PitBull since he worked for Stoney Girl at the time and was now the "older hippy".
I have heard others describe the strain as "Pitiful" since yields are definitely sub optimal. Even the old hippy derided the strain as worthless. But it has been, and continues to be, the most sought after strain we grow. It is ultra potent and very high in terpines, especially myrcene testing at 1.5% of the total profile, which has tested as high as 3.5%. Based upon personal experience, it is fantastic medicine for back spasm and similar pain relief.
Not surprisingly, the strain description given is inaccurate since the entire plant turns so purple they are almost black in appearance. In addition, 9 out of 10 users report the high as uplifting and motivational. So, there appears to be some mystery surrounding the strain. It also does best flowering for at least 10 weeks but can be a challenge since she is very susceptible to bud rot due to a relatively leafy bud structure. But she yields a huge amount of densely sugar coated trim that makes an incredible golden hash.
I've finally obtained a few worthy males from some select strains to see if we can improve on the old dog. But for now PitBull is definitely a strain for growers with a lot of experience who are willing to experiment, observe and make adjustments as needed. Just don't expect much in the way of yield, although hash/rosin production can make up a large part of the deficit. Overall, this may be a near perfect strain if quality pain relief is your primary goal. (20.01.2018, 20:38)
