TH Seeds' Gelato Cake Description

TH Seeds Gelato Cake

Gelato Cake hails from T.H.Seeds, who bred her using an array of popular Cali genetics. This strain possesses high levels of THC, plenty of sugary terpenes, and offers heavy yields. Find out everything you need to know about this variety below.

Strain History Of Gelato Cake

Gelato Cake is a creation of T.H.Seeds, a 30-year-old breeding company that operates from the mantra “To Protect Genetics and Serve Mankind”.

The seed bank has a rich history in Amsterdam, where breeders Adam and Doug set up shop in 1993. As well as establishing the Cannabis Information Center and Hemp Works in the city, the pair have contributed to the development of the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam since its inception. T.H.Seeds have created a large selection of strains since their operation began, including Gelato Cake—a cultivar they crafted with flavour in mind. As it stands, this strain doesn’t possess any competition wins. Instead, it gained popularity on the grassroots level, first in the coffee shops of Amsterdam, and later within international growing and breeding circles.

Genetic Lineage Of Gelato Cake

T.H.Seeds clearly had sugary terpenes in mind when it came to creating Gelato Cake. Before carrying out the breeding process, they had to select a group of parent strains that would make this end result possible. Meet the parents below:

• Gelato #33: This strain has made waves across the cannabis world. Bred by Sherbinskis in San Francisco, the cultivar derives from terpene-loaded parent varieties Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint GSC. This pairing passed down sweet and fruity flavours and a THC content of 20%. Gelato #33 quickly rose to prominence on the West Coast of the USA, and went on to win awards in events including The Emerald Cup 2019, the High Times Cannabis Cup 2018, and the Santa Cruz Cup 2016. This balanced hybrid produces compact buds that exert a high that soothes the body while making the mind more alert and creative.

• Birthday Cake: This strain derives from Aficionado Seeds, a breeding company founded in Northern California’s world-famous Emerald Triangle. The group focuses on creating designer genetics, with a strong focus on heirloom varieties. They created Birthday Cake by crossing parent cultivars Bubblegum and Vishnu Kush. This variety, when grown in the perfect environmental conditions, clocks in with a THC content of up to 26%. It produces a fast-acting and hard-hitting high that some users describe as almost psychedelic. On top of her intense effects, Birthday Cake possesses a particularly sweet terpene profile that makes her suitable for edibles such as space cakes.

• Strawbanana Cream: This hybrid produces large and dense colas that possess a thick coating of trichomes and resin. Karma Genetics created Strawbanana Cream by crossing parent strains Strawberry Banana and White OG V2.0. The sweet and fruity terpenes found within these buds leave a sugary taste on the tongue, and her high THC content drives a happy and euphoric high. Copious amounts of resin make this strain a good pick for making charas using fresh plant material, or mounds of kief using dried flowers. Many of her key traits are apparent in Gelato Cake, including her sweet flavours, high trichome density, and productivity.

Physical Characteristics Of Gelato Cake

Her indica dominance means that Gelato Cake maintains a medium size and a bushy stature throughout the growing cycle. She possesses a thick main stem, short internodes, and broad fan leaves with wide leaflets. She exhibits a lateral growing pattern and rarely exceeds a height of 150cm. Her stocky shape means she works well in tight indoor spaces while helping the strain to withstand strong winds in outdoor environments.

Gelato Cake produces different kinds of colas based on how she’s grown. When left untrained, she unfurls into a characteristic Christmas tree shape with one large central cola that dominates the canopy; smaller buds flank this large central inflorescence. A thick layer of trichomes covers her buds, which give them a frosty white appearance.

This strain maintains a dark forest green colour throughout most of the growing cycle when her nitrogen needs are catered for. Towards the end of the flowering stage, both her buds and upper fan leaves start to turn a deep purple, owing to the degradation of chlorophyll molecules that unveils the anthocyanin compounds lying underneath.

Properties/Effects Of Gelato Cake

Gelato Cake lands a hard-hitting high that relaxes the body. The initial effects are physical in nature and inflict a certain heaviness. Soon after, her cognitive effects become apparent. Her high levels of THC catalyse a sense of euphoria in some users that, despite the overall stoning qualities, motivate the mind to pursue creative projects. Overall, Gelato Cake makes a great smoke during quiet evenings. Her buds help to concentrate the mind and help users enter a flow state. She makes the perfect choice before opening up a book, watching a TV series, or simply kicking back and listening to some music.

Uses Of Gelato Cake

Gelato Cake has become a popular strain among recreational cannabis users. Likewise, some medical marijuana users also opt for this cultivar when it comes to managing certain symptoms. Although no clinical trials exist regarding the efficacy of Gelato Cake for mental and physical ailments, anecdotal evidence suggests that the strain works for the following in some users:

• Anxiety: Gelato Cake’s purple-green flowers are filled with aromatic terpenes that help the mind to slow down and relax, including pinene and caryophyllene. Adding to this, the high levels of THC in these buds help some users to feel more at peace.

• Low mood: The combination of THC and pinene helps to spike dopamine levels while making the mind feel more clear and lucid. This can help some users dislodge themselves from a persistent low mood and feel more motivated and creative.

• Tension: The terpene caryophyllene, found in large quantities in Gelato Cake buds, has a soothing and anti-inflammatory effect that helps to banish tension.

Cultivation/Production Of Gelato Cake

Gelato Cake performs well both indoors and outdoors. Topping this plant early in the vegetative stage and applying LST will keep her at a height of around 1m, allowing you to keep her stealthy and to grow more plants in a small space. Regardless of where you grow her, this strain benefits from the application of bioinoculants, including mycorrhizal fungi and trichoderma during sowing and transplanting. These inputs will decrease the risk of diseases during the seedling phase and spur root development.

When creating a potting mix, make sure to include plenty of organic matter, such as worm castings, to improve the nutrient-holding capacity of the growing medium. Apply a liquid seaweed fertiliser during the vegetative phase, and switch to an organic high-potassium option, such as fermented fruit juice, during flowering. Take care of your plants, and they’ll produce up to 600g/plant after a flowering phase of 8–9 weeks.

Gelato Cake: Delicious and High Yielding

T.H.Seeds created Gelato Cake with the aim of producing a cultivar high in THC and sugary terpenes. This indica-dominant hybrid maintains a bushy and compact structure, made even more manageable when trained early in the vegetative phase. Her high quantities of THC mean her harvests of up to 600g/plant last most users a long time. Overall, this strain serves up a powerful high that stones and body and enlivens the mind, all the while blasting the taste buds with notes of sweetness and fruit.
