Cannarado Genetics' Fatso Description

Fatso is a potent hybrid cannabis strain that'll crush you with its sedative effect. Bred by a prominent Colorado breeder from two popular parent strains, Fatso boasts a strong fuel aroma, a reportedly harsh, hash-like flavor, and intense effects that can completely immobilize even heavyweight tokers. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about the Fatso cannabis strain, including its origins, genetics, properties, growth traits, and more.

History of the Fatso Cannabis Strain

Fatso was created by Cannarado Genetics, a Colorado-based breeder who has been in the cannabis game since the late 1990s. After popping his first seeds in 1998, Cannarado Genetics has been growing, breeding, and experimenting with cannabis plants ever since. Around 2010, Cannarado Genetics began to appear on cannabis forums like THCFarmer and ICMag. Today, he is highly regarded among cannabis growers, especially for his focus on producing feminized seeds, his use of local Colorado strains, as well as his appreciation for old Dutch classics.

Arguably one of Cannarado's most famous strains is Sundae Driver, which was commercialized and made famous by Jungle Boys. Other famous strains from Cannarado Genetics include:

• Grape Pie

• Spritzer

• Zawtz

• Lava Cake

• Orange Daiquiri

Genetic Lineage of Fatso

Fatso gets its heavy stone and colossal strength from two titan strains: GMO Cookies and Legend OG. Below we'll shine a light on both of these strains and explore their traits in more detail.

Fatso's first parent, GMO Cookies, is no nobody. Also known as Garlic Cookies or Garlic Mushroom Onion, GMO's biggest claims to fame are its strong savory aroma and relaxing, sleepy stone. While it might be hard to believe given its intense stank, GMO is actually a descendant of the mighty GSC and Chemdawg. And while her pungent aroma of earthy mushrooms, fried garlic, and diesel might not be for everyone, GMO has earned a loyal following among both recreational and medical cannabis users who treasure its smell, taste, and, most of all, its relaxing effects. With up to 30% THC and a wild mix of aromatic terpenes, GMO is the kind of strain you break out among close friends. As her dense aroma fills the room, lean back into her relaxing, uplifting stone and let your troubles melt away.

Legend OG, Fatso's second parent, is also very popular. While its exact genetic lineage hasn't been revealed, Legend OG is rumored to descend from none other than OG Kush. As is to be expected of any OG strain worth its weight, Legend OG boasts that iconic tangy aroma/flavor that the OG family is known for, mixed with notes of pine and woody undertones. But besides its delicious aromas and flavors, one thing that really makes Legend OG stand out is its effect. Both recreational and medical users love this strain for late-night relaxation and as a natural nightcap, as it melts away symptoms of tension (both mental and physical).

Physical Characteristics of Fatso Weed

Fatso plants normally feature an even split of indica and sativa genetics. They tend to grow to average heights, with long internodes and slightly flimsy branches. Vegging quickly, Fatso plants develop lots of leaves and a thick canopy that is best managed using trimming, defoliation, and training. Once in bloom, Fatso plants stretch significantly before focusing all of their energy on developing thick, frosty buds. Come harvest time, well-grown Fatso plants will be heavy with dense, dark green flowers riddled with yellow and orange hairs. The coating of tiny trichomes makes these buds look almost like miniature snow-dusted pine trees.

Properties and Effects of Fatso

Just like her name suggests, Fatso produces big, stocky buds with a heavy effect. Thanks to its strong genetics, this strain is capable of producing very resinous flowers loaded with cannabinoids and terpenes. Based on lab test results, Fatso flowers regularly produce around 28–30% total cannabinoids. In general, Fatso is very THC dominant (around 28%), though the strain may also contain trace amounts of CBG and THCV. Moreover, Fatso produces around 2–3% terpenes and is dominant in caryophyllene, limonene, and humulene (though it may also contain relatively high concentrations of linalool and myrcene).

Fatso's unique mix of terpenes gives the strain a thick, pungent aroma that almost serves as a warning sign of its strength. Pop the lid off a jar of Fatso buds and you'll be hit in the face by an upfront kick of diesel. Smell again, however, and you'll slowly discover the strain's more subtle aromatic notes, reminiscent of dried grapefruit rinds, old-school earthy hash, bubble gum, and skunk. Inhale her thick smoke, and Fatso will coat your mouth with a harsh, resinous, ammonia-like punch. If you look hard enough, you might find some more pleasant notes of diesel, hash, and lavender. However, its flavor is not Fatso's strong suit. Its effects, nonetheless, definitely are.

If you're an indica lover, Fatso might just be your new favorite smoke. This is the kind of strain that you reserve for late nights after you've slipped into your PJs and the only thing left on your agenda is to relax. Immediately after inhaling Fatso's putrid smoke, you might notice a dash of cerebral curiosity. A minute later, however, that'll all be a distant memory as you fall deeper into Fatso's heavy, sedating stone. As this hard-hitting hybrid wraps you in its warm, tight grasp, you'll feel your entire body go numb as your brain falls into a deep state of limbo. Even the munchies won't be enough to get you off the couch. Finally, at most 2–3 hours after you light up, it'll be lights-out until you wake up the next morning.

Uses of Fatso Cannabis

Given its sedative effect, Fatso typically appeals to smokers who like extremely heavy indicas. Do not make the mistake of lighting up this heavyweight champion if you have anything on your schedule. Instead, enjoy Fatso in the evenings or on holidays when you can allow yourself the leisure of passing out under her deep effect.

As is to be expected from a strain with such a hard-hitting stone, Fatso greatly appeals to medical marijuana patients, especially those with chronic or serious illnesses. According to reports from medical marijuana users, Fatso's effects may be useful for individuals dealing with:

• Stress & anxiety

• Chronic pain

• Inflammation

• Sleep issues

• Appetite loss

• ADD/ADHD

• PTSD

As is the norm for modern, high-potency cannabis hybrids, Fatso can cause unwanted side effects in some people (especially novice users with a low tolerance for THC). These side effects may include:

• Dry eyes/mouth

• Couch-lock/sedation

• Paranoia

• Anxiety

• Dissociation

Cultivation and Production of Fatso

Fatso cannabis seeds are sold by a variety of seed retailers, including Sonoma Genetics, SunWest Genetics, and RocketSeeds, though it's not clear how these seeds compare to the original strain by Cannarado Genetics. Meanwhile, Phinest Cannabis nursery in California sells original Fatso clones. Thanks to their large internodal spacing and vigorous growth, Fatso plants lend themselves well to a wide variety of training techniques, including LST, topping, FIM, defoliation, lollipopping, and more—techniques that are all recommended to help manipulate the bushy growth of this cultivar and maximize its yield potential. The use of stakes and/or nets is also recommended to help Fatso plants bear the weight of their thick, heavy flowers.

As mentioned previously, Fatso plants stretch considerably once in bloom. According to Phinest Cannabis, Fatso plants can take 60–80 days to flower, depending on the conditions in your grow room or garden. Phinest Cannabis also recommends growing Fatso in temperate climates rather than hot, humid conditions. While yields obviously vary depending on your skill and the environment you're growing in, Fatso can produce around 500g/m² indoors and 550g/plant outdoors in optimal conditions.

Fatso — A Heavyweight Strain With a Knockout Stone

Fatso is a hybrid cannabis strain from Cannarado Genetics. Combining genetics from GMO Cookies and Legend OG, the strain is very potent and produces a heavy-handed stone that'll lull even veteran smokers to sleep. While its flavor is strong and harsh, Fatso appeals to serious stoners and indica lovers, as well as medical marijuana patients looking for long-lasting relief.
