Archive Seed Banks Duct Tape Description

Duct Tape is a cannabis strain that gets its name from the super sticky flowers it produces. Descending from some very impressive parent strains, Duct Tape is extremely popular among growers and breeders, while recreational and medical cannabis users treasure its heavy-handed stone. Keep reading to learn more about the Duct Tape cannabis strain, its origins, genetic lineage, and effects.

History of the Duct Tape Cannabis Strain

Duct Tape is a hybrid cannabis strain created by Archive Seedbank. Founded in 2011 by Fletcher Watson, AKA The Docta, Archive Seedbank is highly regarded across the US for producing top-tier cannabis strains and selling excellent flower, extracts, and other forms of cannabis through its dispensary in Portland, Oregon.

Like many growers and breeders, The Docta first experimented with cannabis in high school. He quickly developed a passion for the plant and its effects, as well as a strong palate for its unique aromas and flavors. His love for cannabis led him to focus on growing and breeding, as well as collecting clones of strains like FaceOff OG, The DogShit, and Seattle Purps—all popular varieties across the Pacific Midwest at the time. To this day, The Docta focuses mainly on the aroma and flavors of cannabis, and all of his breeding projects are about preserving varieties that smell and taste great. According to the man himself: "It's not all about getting high for me".

In 2011, The Docta officially launched Archive Seedbank, through which he now sells over 90 different strains as well as merchandise. Archive Seedbank's flagship strain is Dosidos, though the brand also has many other famous creations under its belt, including:

• Grimace OG

• Lemon Amnesia

• Hell Raiser OG

• Moonbow

• Light Speed

Genetic Lineage of Duct Tape

Duct Tape is a hybrid cannabis variety bred from GG#4 (aka Gorilla Glue) and Dosidos. Below we'll take a closer look at both of these strains, their traits, and how they may have influenced Duct Tape.

Duct Tape's first parent, Gorilla Glue #4, needs very little introduction. The lovechild of a majestic three-way between Chem's Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel, GG#4 (also known as Original Glue) is renowned for its delicious aroma, excellent resin production, and powerful high. Roughly 60–70% indica dominant, Original Glue produces dense nugs that are super sticky and deliver a deeply relaxing bliss. Its aroma is very pungent, with upfront pine notes, earthy undertones, and a tangy chem finish. Created by the late Joesy Whales around 2010, Gorilla Glue #4 has achieved legendary status, and endows Duct Tape with substantial potency and a dank flavor profile.

Duct Tape's second parent, Dosidos, is just as famous. Bred by Archive Seedbank in 2016 from OGKB (a unique GSC phenotype also known as OG Kush Breath) and FaceOff OG, Dosidos produces dense flowers with lustrous lime-green, purple, and bright orange hues. Named Leafly's Strain of the Year in 2021, Dosidos (also known as Dosi) is beloved for its high levels of THC, its fruity, grassy, skunky aroma, and its strong effects that are both physically relaxing and mentally uplifting. Packing plenty of THC and a rich mix of limonene, caryophyllene, and linalool, Dosidos contributes blissful euphoria and complex aromas to its Duct Tape progeny.

Physical Characteristics of Duct Tape

Duct Tape plants develop dark green foliage, strong branches, and moderately spaced nodes. They don't stretch too much once in bloom, and produce small clusters of dense, frosty flowers along their branches. Duct Tape buds tend to retain a lively green color throughout their bloom cycle, though some varieties may develop purple hues along the edges of their calyxes. Duct Tape flowers produce few leaves, making for easy trimming and good harvests. Reminiscent of both GG#4 and Dosidos, Duct Tape is renowned for producing extreme amounts of resin, with its buds looking almost as if they've been dusted in fine sugar.

Properties and Effects of Duct Tape

Duct Tape is a very potent strain containing between 25–30% THC. Adding to this is an exotic mix of terpenes. According to dispensaries and users, some of the most prominent terpenes in Duct Tape include limonene, myrcene, caryophyllene, camphene, pinene, and camphor, which combine to give the strain its pungent chemical aroma. Users describe Duct Tape's aromas and flavors as pine-forward, with lemon diesel overtones and some subtle earthy undertones reminiscent of coffee and cacao. Some users also pick up on hints of mint and Kush when smoking Duct Tape.

Thanks to its excellent resin production and high concentration of cannabinoids/terpenes, Duct Tape produces very strong effects and thus is recommended for experienced users. After just a few hits, even veteran smokers will experience a heavy-handed stone that hits right between the eyes and slowly washes over the entire body. If you've got a high tolerance for cannabis, you may find Duct Tape's initial effects to be engaging and uplifting; you may be able to enjoy the strain during the day in small doses. However, most users (even veteran smokers) find that Duct Tape produces a profound stone that's best reserved for the evenings when you can kick up your feet, relax, and eventually doze off into a restful night's sleep.

Uses of Duct Tape Weed

Its strong effects and pungent aromas have made Duct Tape a very popular strain among both recreational and medical cannabis users. Recreational users, for example, treasure this hybrid for its ability to help them unwind and decompress. Consider enjoying this strain while:

• Watching TV

• Before bed

• After a workout

• Relaxing outdoors on weekends or vacations

Duct Tape is also particularly popular among medical cannabis patients. According to reviews, medical marijuana users recommend Duct Tape for dealing with symptoms like:

• Pain

• Inflammation

• Muscle soreness

• Tremors

• Insomnia and sleep issues

• Appetite loss

• PTSD

• Anxiety

• Stress

Like all high-potency cannabis strains, Duct Tape can cause some side effects, particularly in users with a low tolerance to THC. According to user reports, some of the most common side effects of Duct Tape include:

• Paranoia

• Anxiety

• Dry mouth/eyes

• Couch-lock

Cultivation and Production of the Duct Tape Cannabis Strain

Duct Tape is sold in feminized and regular seed form directly from Archive Seedbank, though at present the latter type of seed is out of stock. Unfortunately, the brand provides little specific information about the strain's grow traits. Growers, however, report that Duct Tape is a bushy specimen that's well-suited for indoor growth, though it may take some training to open up her canopy and promote even light distribution to all parts of the plant. Thanks to its solid branching, Duct Tape may also perform well in ScrOG setups. According to grow reports, this strain takes about 10 weeks to flower, at the end of which she'll reward growers with solid harvests of very sticky bud.

Duct Tape: The Super-Sticky Lovechild of GG#4 and Dosidos

Duct Tape is a hybrid cannabis variety bred by Archive Seedbank from GG#4 and Dosidos. The result is a well-balanced plant with dark foliage and dense flowers boasting exceptional amounts of resin. Duct Tape is a very pungent strain with a strong aroma of pine accented with hints of lemony fuel and earthy undertones. With 25–30% THC, it produces a strong stone that's deeply relaxing and loved by experienced users with a tolerance.
