Cookies Cake Mix Description

Cookie Fam Genetics Cake Mix

As its name suggests, Cake Mix descends from the popular Cake line of cannabis genetics. Known for their earthy, sweet aromas with hints of citrus and glazed fruits, Cake strains are a treat for the entire body as well as the mind. Keep reading to learn all there is to know about Cake Mix, its genetics, aromas, flavors, and more.

History of Cake Mix

Cake Mix is a hybrid cannabis strain sold by Lemonnade—the sister company of Cookies, focusing primarily on sativa-dominant cannabis strains and products. Lemonnade was founded in 2015 by rapper Berner and Brett Wilson, a longtime cannabis cultivator whose first experiences in the grow room date back to when he was 12 years old and being called in to help his Dad tend to his weed plants.

Originally from Santa Cruz, Wilson always had a passion for the old-time genetics he saw his Dad growing when he was only a kid. Just before meeting Berner in 2015, Wilson had begun a meticulous hunt for strains with that iconic lemony freshness characteristic of Santa Cruz strains like Lemon Diesel. Together with Berner, he then crafted a menu and brand dedicated to these strains, their unique flavors and aromas, as well as their uplifting, creative and social effects.

While this hasn't been confirmed, some sources claim that the Cake Mix strain commercialized by Lemonnade was actually bred by JBeezy and Seed Junky Genetics, who also created several other beloved hybrids in the Cake family, including:

• Wedding Cake

• LA Kush Cake

• Cake Batter

Unfortunately, the exact origins of the Cake Mix strain aren't known. What we do know is that the strain has become increasingly popular among recreational and medical smokers, thanks to its potent yet uplifting effects and deliciously sweet flavor.

Genetic Lineage of Cake Mix

While it isn't clear who created it, we know that Cake Mix stems from a cross of Wedding Cake and London Pound Cake (aka LPC). Keep reading to learn more about both of these strains.

Wedding Cake is, without a doubt, a household name in the cannabis community. Bred by Seed Junky Genetics and often considered "the mother of all Cake strains," Wedding Cake is known for being a hard-hitting indica-dominant strain with sweet, earthy dessert aromas, plenty of THC, and a hard-hitting, happy stone that leaves users in a relaxed daze for hours.

Unfortunately, the exact genetic origins of Wedding Cake aren't known; some users believe it stems from Triangle Kush x Animal Mints, while others suggest it's a mix of Cherry Pie and GSC. Either way, Wedding Cake contains some A-grade predecessors and has been known to pass on its strong bud structure and high resin production to other strains, including Banana Runtz Cake, TwinkieZ, Dinosaur Cake, and many more.

London Pound Cake, Cake Mix's second parent, is just as famous. Bred by Cookies, London Pound Cake is a direct descendant of Mr. Sherbinski's Sunset Sherbert, which helps explain the strain's complex, lemon-forward aroma. While its second parent has never been revealed, that hasn't stopped LPC from winning over smokers, especially those with a high tolerance thanks to a whopping 30% THC.

LPC's effects are generally described as well-balanced, combining a manageable cerebral euphoria with a soothing body stone—all without causing hyperactivity or racing thoughts, nor a deep sedation or couch lock. According to cannabis folklore, Cake Mix was bred from LPC #75.

The resulting cross of Wedding Cake and LPC created Cake Mix, which is roughly 85% indica-dominant—a little confusing, seeing as the Lemonnade brand supposedly focuses on sativa-hybrids. It produces dense, small indica-style nugs with a shape and tight structure similar to that of Wedding Cake and LPC. Its aroma is earthy and gassy, its flavors are reminiscent of fresh lemon shortbreads, and its effects are balanced.

Physical Characteristics of Cake Mix

The original Cake Mix by Lemonnade hasn't been released in seed or clone form, which isn't surprising given that Cookies keeps a tight lock on most of its varieties and collaborations. What we do know from pictures of the original Cake Mix by Lemonnade is that the strain produces dense, frosty flowers with beautiful shades of light and dark green, dotted with dark orange pistils. Flowers show some signs of foxtailing, which isn't uncommon in Cookies strains, and good structure with swollen calyxes, as well as a super dense coating of trichomes.

Note that other breeders and seedbanks might sell seeds or clones under the Cake Mix name. We do not know how these seeds or clones compare to the original Cake Mix by Lemonnade.

Properties/Effects of Cake Mix

Cake Mix is a very potent cannabis strain, regularly producing around 24–27% THC (depending on the batch), along with 1–2% CBD. It also packs high concentrations of terpenes, particularly myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene, and linalool, which combine to give the strain its unique aroma. A freshly popped bag of Cake Mix will smell earthy and nutty, with upfront notes of sugary cherries and sweet citrus accents. Inhale her dense smoke or vapor, and your taste buds are greeted by smooth and creamy butter overtones layered with the sweetness of glazed fruits and fresh shortbread dough.

Given its potency, one hit is usually all you'll need to start feeling the effects of Cake Mix (though your tastebuds might beg for a second or third). Soon after lighting her up, she'll surprise you with an instant rush of cerebral energy that'll wash away your worries and up your mood.

Despite her indica-dominant genes, Cake Mix can make a great morning or daytime smoke, especially for users with a high tolerance. Smokers who have tried Cake Mix report the strain's cerebral effects as uplifting, instilling a sense of focus and motivation—ideal for working through a long to-do list. Along with its cerebral effects, Cake Mix also produces some mild physical relaxation, though not enough to cause laziness, couchlock, or sleepiness (though this will depend on your tolerance).

Uses of Cake Mix

Cake Mix by Lemonnade is a common choice among both recreational and medical cannabis smokers. Recreational smokers, for example, love toking on this strain:

• While relaxing with friends and family

• On cruisy strolls through nature or the neighborhood

• While working from home

• Before focusing on housework

• While watching movies or TV

• At parties or other social situations

Meanwhile, medical marijuana patients are just as fond of the Cake Mix strain. Based on reviews from a variety of different cannabis patients, Cake Mix may help with:

• Mood disorders

• Pain management

• Inflammation

• Sleep issues

Many users report that Cake Mix delivers strong effects, even for those with a high tolerance. If you're an inexperienced smoker or sensitive to the effects of cannabis, consider taking it slow, or its influence may prove overpowering. Some of the adverse side effects of Cake Mix reported by users include:

• Anxiety

• Cottonmouth

• Dry eyes

• Dizziness

Cultivation/Production of Cake Mix

Since the original Cake Mix hasn't been released in seed or clone form, it's impossible to grow the strain at home, and we have no information about its grow traits, yields, or flowering time. If you're interested in growing Cake Mix at home, shop for seeds or clones of this strain by other seedbanks and breeders. Just keep in mind that those varieties will likely vary from the original strain commercialized by Lemonnade.

Cake Mix: A Potent Descendant of Wedding Cake from Cookies and Lemonnade

Cake Mix descends from the almighty Wedding Cake and London Pound Cake, two varieties already beloved for their unique aromas, strong flavors, and great effects. Supposedly bred by Seed Junky and commercialized by Cookies and its sister company Lemonnade, Cake Mix boasts delicious dessert aromas and flavors, as well as a balanced effect that appeals to both recreational and medical cannabis users. Unfortunately, like many strains launched by Cookies, Cake Mix isn't available to home growers in seed or clone form.
