Strain History of Hood Candyz

Hood Candyz is one of many strains created by Solfire Gardens, a cannabis breeder and seed company from the Pacific Northwest. Solfire's history with cannabis dates back to 1996, when he started growing alongside Exotic Genetix—another well-regarded breeder whom he met in community college. After this, Solfire studied Biology at the University of Washington. Immediately after graduating, Solfire started his genetics company, which, to this day, continues to produce highly sought-after seeds and strains.

Genetic Lineage of Hood Candyz

Hood Candyz is a hybrid strain bred from Runtz and Why U Gelly. Below we'll look into both of these strains, their traits, and how they may have influenced those of Hood Candyz’.

Hood Candyz' first parent, Runtz, needs little introduction. Since its debut at the 2017 Emerald Cup, Runtz has been a top name in cannabis. A descendant of Zkittlez and Gelato, Runtz boasts a sugary-sweet fruit aroma and a relaxing stone that both recreational and medical cannabis users love. While Runtz has been on tight lockdown in order to preserve its genetics, Solfire Gardens was able to secure a cut of this hybrid very early and used it in the creation of hybrids like Hood Candyz, where it contributes fruity terps and relaxing effects.

Hood Candyz' second parent, Why U Gelly, on the other hand, is much more boutique. Created by Solfire Gardens, Why U Gelly is rumored to be an indica-dominant cross of Gelato 33 (the Larry Bird cut) and Don Mega. Why U Gelly is said to be a mid-potency strain, producing around 20% THC, though this can vary based on how it is grown. The strain boasts a sweet, earthy, and gassy aroma, a slightly grassy/pine flavor, and a mellow, relaxing stone great for kicking up your feet and unwinding after a long day. Why U Gelly is also known to produce purple buds in some conditions.

Physical Characteristics of Hood Candyz

Solfire Gardens hasn't released the exact genetic split for Hood Candyz, but the plants seem to show a fairly even blend of sativa and indica genes. Hood Candyz seeds typically produce fast-growing plants with a tight, bushy structure and large, broad fan leaves of a light green color. Hood Candyz plants seem to have moderately spaced nodes and produce a strong central stem as well as multiple side branches. Depending on how she's grown, Hood Candyz may take on notable darker hues during the flowering phase.

Come harvest time, Hood Candyz' central cola and side branches are typically loaded with dense, heavy flowers boasting tight stacks of calyxes. In most cases, Hood Candyz flowers are dark green with beautiful purple shades, though sometimes the flowers may turn entirely purple. Either way, together with their fiery red pistils and glistening coating of trichomes, Hood Candyz buds are always a sight for sore eyes.

Properties and Effects of Hood Candyz

Hood Candyz is an exceptionally potent hybrid with flowers that usually test at around 30% THC, with little-to-no secondary cannabinoids. Reminiscent of both its parents, Hood Candyz' aroma is sweet and pungent, with notes of dark berries and grapes as well as light earthy undertones and sour gas overtones. Its flavor is also berry-forward, and very sweet, with an earthy aftertaste. Being particularly rich in caryophyllene, you may also pick up on notable hints of peppery spice.

In terms of effects, Hood Candyz hits pretty quickly, producing an almost immediate sense of euphoria. Expect to feel uplifted and positive, as well as social, giggly, and creative. Soon after the initial cerebral rush, you will likely also experience a relaxing body buzz that relieves muscle tension, typically without causing couch-lock (though this may depend on your tolerance and/or dose). As mentioned earlier, Hood Candyz plants boast standard hybrid characteristics and grow into compact, bushy, and stocky trees during their vegetative phase. Given their thick foliage and tightly spaced nodes, Hood Candyz plants benefit from pruning and defoliation, as well as training. Once in bloom, Hood Candyz stretches considerably and develops long, dark leaves. According to Solfire Gardens, Hood Candyz needs just 56 days to finish flowering indoors, at which point it rewards growers with medium–large harvests of dense, fragrant flowers loaded with THC and terpenes.
